The Comanche Nation College (CNC) in Lawton, Oklahoma was established as a community college by a Comanche Nation Charter Resolution in 2002. The Comanche Nation is federally recognized as a tribe of Oklahoma. The Comanche Nation established a Comanche Nation College Council of leaders in higher education. CNC was the first Tribal College established in the state of Oklahoma.
Comanche Nation College provides opportunities in higher education and career programs that integrate both traditional and non-traditional knowledge and have a culturally responsive connection to the American Indian communities and others. Current program offerings include accounting, art, American Indian studies, business, police training, education, speech/communications, human services, mathematics, and science.
Comanche Nation College has been licensed by the Oklahoma Department of Private Vocational Schools since 2004. On April 2008, the college received provisional accreditation for a practical nursing program from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. Other current offerings include American Indian studies, art, accounting, business, education, speech/communications, natural science, and mathematics. The college operates as an educational partner to Cameron University for transferability of student credits. The college is developing programs in gaming management and coding/medical billing.
Comanche Nation College currently is in its fourth year of collaboration grants through Oklahoma’s Health Science Center for undergraduate development in STEM programs and research initiatives. Special summer institutes for qualified candidates provide full scholarships to students to conduct research in research universities.
