Wakanyeja “Sacred Little Ones” Early Childhood Education Initiative Annual Convening:

A Shared Responsibility Creating Systems of Care and Learning for Native Children and Families

June 2014

The 2014 Annual Wakanyeja Convening of Tribal College and University (TCU) Grantees focused collective attention on the shared responsibility we all hold to ensure that Native children and families have access to high quality systems of care and learning. To date, the funded TCU grant projects have generated new knowledge in the areas of early childhood education, programming, administration, teacher education, Native language and culture, curriculum development, assessment, family and parent empowerment, and integration of systems from birth to preschool to K-3 learning and beyond. Thirty participants comprised of project directors, TCU faculty, early learning and K-3 partners, parents, and supporters from five TCUs attended the retreat in Keshena, WI. The American Indian College Fund thanks the College of Menominee Nation for hosting the 2014 convening.
