The Yazzie family has been living in a mobile home for five years without running water or heat, with only half the trailer receiving electricity. Gwendolyn, a younger sister who suffers from asthma and epilepsy, was at risk from the coal and fire used to heat the home, so her older brother Garrett invented a solar and water heater out of scraps from the junkyard to help his family, while continuing the Navajo tradition of living off the land and leaving no waste. Garrett later won a science award at his school for the project. The Extreme Team helped the Yazzies move into a home that meets Gwendolyn's health needs, can accommodate the entire family, and recycles the earth's natural resources and minimizes waste. Upon Garrett's request, the Team also gave science equipment to his school to help other students achieve. # # # |
