FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The UPS Foundation Delivers $132,000 to American Indian College Fund December 17, 2009--Denver, Colo.— The UPS Foundation awarded the American Indian College Fund (the Fund) $132,000 for scholarships benefiting American Indian students for 2009-10 academic year scholarships.
John Cooper, employee relations manager at UPS in Denver, presented a check to Richard B. Williams, president and CEO of the Fund. Cooper said, “We are happy to be part of the wonderful things the American Indian College Fund does.” Williams said, “In tough economic times, we are thrilled to have not just the continued but increased support of The UPS Foundation. The UPS Foundation exemplifies the American and holiday spirit through its philanthropy by helping others that are less fortunate to succeed.” The grant will support qualified American Indian students by providing financial resources to encourage them to complete a college degree. With an education, students can build a better life for themselves, their families, and make valuable contributions to their communities and nation. The UPS Foundation was established in 1951 and is based in Atlanta, Ga. The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues. In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving: non-profit effectiveness, economic and global literacy, encouraging diversity, community safety, and environmental sustainability. In 2008 the UPS Foundation distributed $46.9 million worldwide through grants that benefit organizations or programs such as the American Indian College Fund that provide support for building stronger communities. “The UPS Foundation is committed to funding impactful programs that make a meaningful difference in our communities—so we are proud to support the American Indian College Fund’s efforts to help American Indian students get a higher education,” said Ken Sternad, president of The UPS Foundation.
