FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Peierls Foundation, Inc. Grants American Indian College Fund $100,200 for Scholarships Denver, Colo. (November 16, 2009)— The Peierls Foundation, Inc. has announced it is granting the American Indian College Fund (the Fund) $100,200 for scholarships. Mr. E. Jeffrey Peierls, president of the foundation, noted that like many businesses and organizations, the poor economy has had a negative impact on the foundation’s investments. However, the value and positive impact of the American Indian College Fund’s work was considered to be so important that the Peierls Foundation granted the Fund the prior level of funding from 2008 plus an additional $100 to serve as a nominal increase in funding. Richard B. Williams, president and CEO of the American Indian College Fund, said, “The dedication of organizations like the Peierls Foundation to American Indian education, even in hard economic times, provides a lifeline for American Indian students who might not otherwise be able to afford to go to college. American Indians are among the most poor in America, so hard times are even harder for them. The generosity of the Peierls Foundation gives Native people hope and shows that we are all in this together.” About the American Indian College Fund With its credo “Educating the Mind and Spirit,” the Denver-based American Indian College Fund is the nation’s largest provider of private scholarships for American Indian students, providing more than 5,000 scholarships annually for students seeking to better their lives and communities through education at the nation’s 33 accredited tribal colleges and universities.
