American Indian College Fund

Scholarships for Undergraduate Tribal College Students

All scholarships require U.S. Citizenship and American Indian or Alaska Native tribe membership, or proof of descendancy (parent or grandparent).  Full-time enrollment is required for all scholarships.


Anonymous Foundation Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $4,600
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 2.0
Other requirements: Permanent resident of California or a member of a California based tribe

Anthony A. Welmas Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $1,000
Classification: Pursuing an associates or bachelors degree
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements: Member of a federally recognized tribe


Arizona Public Service Navajo Scholars Program: 

Scholarship value: up to $8,500
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 2.8
Other requirements:

  • Students at Diné College or Navajo Technical College
  • Majoring in science, engineering, technology or math (or a related field)
  • Navajo Nation tribal member and membership in any Shiprock Agency Chapter
  • Interest in interning or working for Arizona Public Service
  • Willing to attend the AIHEC Student Congress Summer Leadership Training (all expenses paid)

Austin Family Scholarship Endowment:
Scholarship value: $1,085
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 2.0
Other requirements: Resident of Oklahoma and be an enrolled member or descendant of an Oklahoma tribe.

Bernold and Beatrice Pollard Scholarship Program:
Scholarship value: $1,900
Classification: Pursuing bachelor’s degree
Minimum GPA: 2.5
Other requirements: Preference for students from the Round Valley Indian Tribes of northern California and the Fort Bidwell Indian Community. Also students studying STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

CIGNA Foundation Tribal Scholars Healthcare
Scholarship value: $2,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements:

  • Attending a tribal college in Arizona, Washington, or Wisconsin
  • Studying Social & Behavioral Science, Public Health, Social Science, Chemical Dependency Studies, Medical Office Mid-Management, Medical Assistant, Pre-Health Information Management, Pre-Nursing, Medical Transcriptionist or Nursing
  • Interest in internship opportunities with Cigna
  • Leadership qualities and involvement in the Native community

 

Claire Booth Luce Scholarship
Scholarship value: $75,000 ($18,750 per year for 4 years)
Classification: Attending Navajo Technical University in the B.S. in Information Technology – Computer Science or Digital Manufacturing program, or in the B.S. in Industrial Engineering
Minimum GPA: 2.0
Other requirements: Outstanding female students who will graduate in Spring 2018

Scholarship value: $5,000
Classification: Freshman
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements:

  • Be the first in student’s immediate family to attend college
  • Demonstrated financial need

Doc and Barbara Cartwright Endowed Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $3,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements: 

  • Male students only
  • Recipients must serve as mentors and role models to encourage other American Indian men to pursue a course in higher education
  • Recipients must actively recruit other American Indian men to attend college

Ecotrust Native American Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $3,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 2.5
Other requirements: 

  • Enrolled at either Ilisagvik College or Northwest Indian College
  • Majoring in natural resource management, environmental studies, public health, economic development, or social sciences
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Demonstrated financial need

Estee Lauder Tribal Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $1,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements: 

  • Must be studying: marketing, business, environmental science or a related field
  • Must be attending a TCU in Minnesota

Ford Motor Company Tribal College Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $3,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements: 

  • First preference for students in a Michigan tribal college
  • Majoring in Math, Science, Engineering, Business, Teacher Training, and/or Environmental Science

Helen K. and Arthur E. Johnson Foundation Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $2,600
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 2.0
Other requirements:

  • Colorado resident OR member of Southern Ute tribe or Ute Mountain Ute tribe
  • Demonstrated financial need

  • Majoring in math, technology, science, engineering and/or business.

Hilton Worldwide Tribal College Hospitality Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $1,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements:

  • Majoring in Hospitality or Business
  • Attending Blackfeet Community College, Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College, or Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute
  • Recipients strongly encouraged to apply for internship openings with Hilton Worldwide

IBM Tribal College Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $2,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements:

  • Must be studying science, technology, engineering, mathematics and/or business
  • Demonstrated leadership and commitment to the American Indian community.
  • Students must have an interest in interning for IBM.

Lannan Scholarship:

Other requirements: Demonstrated leadership and commitment to an American Indian community.

 Lilly Endowment, Inc: Woksape Oyate: “Wisdom of the People” Distinguished Scholar Award:

  • Valedictorian or salutatorian of 2013 high school class

  • Preference given to business, information technology, hospitality, and marketing majors.
NBC Universal Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $5,250
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements:
  • Students who are interested in a careers in media, either in front of or behind the camera.
  • Major preferences are journalism, media, broadcasting, entertainment, film, and telecom.
  • Students who are interested in internships in either the LA or NYC offices of NBC Universal.

PwC Tribal College Accounting Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $9,000
Classification: Sophomore, Junior
Minimum GPA: 2.8
Other requirements: Exceptional accounting major interested in internship opportunities.

San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Tribal Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $1,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior

Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company Foundation Achieving the Dream Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $4,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore

  • Single parents and/or in first year of associate’s degree program
  • Students attending Diné College, Navajo Technical College, Sisseton Wahpeton College, Sinte Gleska University, or Oglala Lakota College

Other requirements: Committed to working for a tribe or an Indian organization upon graduation.

Traveler’s Foundation Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $4,000
Classification: Sophomore, Junior, Senior: preference for Junior or Senior
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements: -Applicants must be enrolled at a public, private, or tribal college in or near one of the following metropolitan areas OR originally be from in or near one of the listed areas. Specific majors are also required for each metropolitan area. Tribal colleges near each area are noted below.

  • Must be a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Florida, Minnesota, or Texas and/or enrolled full-time in one of the following tribal colleges: Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, Leech Lake Tribal College, White Earth Tribal and Community College, Northwest Indian College, or Haskell Indian Nations University;
  • Majoring in business, accounting, computer science, computer technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or a related field
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Commitment to community and leadership development.

The Tzo'-Nah Fund Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $2,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Seniors
Minimum GPA: 2.0
Other requirements:

  • Freshmen or sophomores attending Blackfeet Community College and juniors or seniors attending Salish Kootenai College
  • Preference for students majoring in environmental science programs
  • Also majors in science, technology, engineering or math

United Health Foundation Scholarship:
Scholarship value: $5,000
Classification: Freshman, Sophomore
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Other requirements:

  • Enrolled at Dine College, Tohono O'odham Community College, or Navajo Technical College
  • Majoring in a health or related field
  • Interest in serving communities in need
  • Demonstrated financial need

Scholarship value: $2,750

Minimum GPA: 2.0
Other requirements: Must be a first year, first generation college student

American Indian College Fund Tribal College and University Scholarship Deadlines: Please contact your financial aid office at your tribal college for deadline information. Awards are made through the tribal college. Good luck!

American Indian College Fund Full Circle Scholarship Deadlines: Applications are accepted from students attending tribal colleges and universities beginning January 1 and ending May 31 of each year. The American Indian College Fund determines student eligibility and awards the scholarships. Award and denial notices will be mailed out to all applicants by September each year to the address listed on the application. Good luck!
