Foundation Support

Through the innovative support of the American Indian College Fund's foundation partners, we are able to expand the level and type of assistance we provide to the tribal colleges and Native communities.

The following activities are being undertaken by the American Indian College Fund and its foundation partners:

Castle Rock Foundation

The Denver-based Castle Rock Foundation supports the American Indian College Fund Student of the Year Award. Under the program, one outstanding student from each of the accredited tribal colleges and universities in the United States receives a $1,000 scholarship check for tuition, fees, room and board, books, or other educational needs.

To qualify for the award, students must earn a minimum 3.0 grade point average, demonstrate community service and volunteer work in their tribal community, and be American Indian or Alaska Native. Qualified students are nominated by their tribal colleges and universities, and are honored at an awards banquet each spring.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Faculty Career Enhancement Program

corplogo_awmellon.jpgThe American Indian College Fund and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation have partnered to establish the Mellon Faculty Career Enhancement Program, giving tribal college faculty significant financial support needed to complete their terminal degree programs. Tribal colleges will not only improve the academic credentials of their staff, but will also take high-profile measures to increase the loyalty of faculty--and with it, the likelihood of retaining faculty members.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Faculty Research Program

The American Indian College Fund and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation have partnered to establish the Mellon Faculty Career Enhancement Program to increase the number of faculty research projects within the nation’s accredited tribal colleges and in American Indian communities. This program permits tribal college faculty to take time off to complete scholarly research projects, prepare publications, and present research at national conferences with the support of a tribal college student research assistant.
