Tribal Colleges - NM Located on the eastern edge of the Navajo Nation on a 70-acre campus, Crownpoint Institute of Technology is a tribal technical college offering nine associate degrees and 15 certificate programs. Founded in 1979 as the Navajo Skill Center and then chartered by the Navajo Nation in 1982, the institute was established for the purpose of providing vocational skills training. The vision of Crownpoint Institute of Technology is to educate Navajo individuals to utilize state-of-the-art technology and to enhance the desirable character traits of integrity, self-discipline, loyalty and respect. The college had a fall 2002 enrollment of 283 students. Crownpoint, along with Diné College and Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, is partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy to provide training in the area of environmental restoration.
