American Indian College Fund – Mellon Faculty Research Program
The goal of the American Indian College Fund - Mellon Faculty Research Program (Mellon Research Program) is to increase the number of American Indian faculty research projects within the tribal colleges and Indian communities. The Mellon Research Program will allow TCU faculty the necessary time off to complete scholarly articles and/or books, with the support of tribal college students who would serve as research assistants. The Mellon Research Program will award two to three $34,000 research fellowships each year, for a total of eight fellows upon program completion.
Eligibility Requirements:
- All fields of study are eligible.
- Must be a current tribal college faculty member.
- Have at least a master's degree.
- Possess a demonstrated commitment to American Indian education and scholarship.
- Agree to continue serving as a tribal college faculty member for at least two years after the completion of the research project.
- Submit a research proposal, of no more then 5,000 words outlining the research topic.
- Select a student research assistant to work with throughout the year on the project, and assist the student to produce a research paper by the end of the project.
- Participate in an expense paid Annual Fellow/Student Assistant retreat.
- Complete the research project within a one year timeframe upon receiving this award.
- Must present at a scholarly research conference of their choosing and include the student research assistant in any presentations. Travel expenses for this conference will be paid for by the Fund.
