American Indian College Fund – Mellon Faculty Career Enhancement Fellowship Program

In 2004, the American Indian College Fund and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation partnered to establish the American Indian College Fund-Mellon Faculty Career Enhancement Fellowship Program (Mellon Fellowship).  The intent of the Mellon Fellowship is to increase and retain the number of credentialed faculty at the nation's tribal colleges and universities.  This fellowship will provide substantial financial and mentoring support to current TCU faculty in the final stages of a terminal degree program.  Applicants must be ABD in an accredited terminal degree program.  This prestigious and highly competitive award offers a $30,000 fellowship and a $2,250 travel stipend to selected fellows.  Fellows are expected to pursue their terminal degree full–time.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a current tribal college faculty member
  • Completed all course work and be considered “All But Dissertation” (ABD) in an accredited terminal degree program (M.F.A., Ph.D., Ed.D.) by Spring 2008
  • Agree to continue serving as faculty for at least two years at a tribal college after completion of the terminal degree
  • Committed to finishing the terminal degree within one academic year after receiving award
  • Obtain tribal college institutional support to take necessary time-off to complete dissertation
  • Have a demonstrated commitment to American Indian education and scholarship
  • Select a senior faculty member mentor to work closely with throughout the year
  • Participate in an expense paid Annual Fellow/Mentor retreat
