Each year, thousands of individual, corporate, foundation and Indian tribal donors donate to the American Indian College Fund. Our success and the success of our students is truly attributable to their generosity. We're pleased to highlight some of their stories here.
Budding Entrepreneur Raises Money for Fund There's nothing that can compare to the taste of fresh-squeezed lemonade bought from a youngster tending a road-side stand in the summer heat. Except maybe the taste of satisfaction, knowing that you have contributed to a good cause. Just ask Bingo Buchwald, an 10-year old Seattle resident, who found a way to market both. The budding entrepreneur sold "Bingo's Freshly Squeezed Juices," which included lemonade, strawberry lemonade, orange juice, blackberry apple juice, apple ginger juice, and even Cliff bars to benefit the American Indian College Fund (the Fund). Like many kids Bingo's age, "he was desperate to have a lemonade stand," said his mother, Dedra Buchwald. She and his father, Spero Manson, from the Turtle Mountain Chippewa nation, suggested to their son that people would be more likely to buy his product if they knew the funds were going to a good cause. Both are medical professionals who have worked with Native people, and are firm believers in the Fund. Sold on the idea, Bingo and his mom bought lemonade and juice and set up their stand during a village fair. Not only did he sell lots of lemonade, he introduced many people to the Fund. "Lots of people bought lemonade just to support the Fund. They could understand the importance of education," Dedra said. Bingo's thoughtfulness embodies the spirit of the American Indian College Fund. Bingo, we thank you and honor you! |
