Spotlight On Our Supporters: Meet Judi Gott

Recently, the Fund caught up with Judi Gott, a major donor to the American Indian College Fund. Introduced to the Fund in 2001, she now supports two named scholarships, one in honor of a dear friend who passed away and another in honor of her son, a high school teacher. She's also worked as a volunteer with the Fund and has included the Fund in her estate plans.

What drew you to the American Indian College Fund?
I believe education is the only way to become self-sufficient. I was a participant on a tribal college tour, visiting Montana and four tribal colleges. My visits confirmed my belief. Unlike mainstream colleges, tribal college students are given critical social and educational support. They're not allowed to "fall through the cracks".

There are many worthy causes you could support. Why the American Indian College Fund?
Two reasons: the need of American Indian students, as well as the fact that approximately 75% of funds raised go directly to students, in the form of scholarships and programs, as well as public education.

Many of our supporters tell us that they give because someone helped them along the way and they want to give back. Is that true for you?
I believe giving back, in the form of financial assistance and volunteer time, is the ultimate gift of loving kindness. As a child, this value was a large part of my family life.

Any comments on your Return On Investment?
Giving to the Fund is an investment in the future of tribal education and brings many families out of poverty. Support of tribal culture returns educated tribal members back to their tribes to repeat the cycle of education and opportunity. The return on the investment to me is, observing the joy of the graduate on that special day...the joy of hope!
